The man behind the Back to Basics PAC

Here is an interview with Bryan Preston where he tells us who is behind the ‘coward’ ad that ran against Governor Perry. He mentions how counter productive it is to make such a charge against an opponent and yet run for the hills when unpopular leaders from your side come to town. Listen as Bryan fills us in and makes the case.

“The Back to Basics PAC, which has been running a series of despicable ads against Gov Rick Perry, is bankrolled by a liberal trial lawyer in Houston. Listen to this audio to find out about him and his agenda.”

By the way, the TXGOP Chairman Steve Munisteri wrote in his recent news update:

“On a sad note, our excellent Communications Director, Bryan Preston, will be leaving for greener pastures.  Bryan will have an exciting announcement, which we will share with you sometime in the near future.”

Can’t wait to hear about that. Bryan helped Michelle Malkin back in the early days at Hot Air. He gets around!

Covering up for Spooky Dude

My humble little blog attempt is still getting an ever increasing number of hits after (if not because of) The New Yorker article by Mayer. Good to see Lasky go mythbuster mode on the issue of big donors. ~ SW

Covering up for George Soros

By Ed Lasky | August 31, 2010 | American Thinker

Spooky Dude and MiniMe

The sinister, omnipresent moneybags of the American left, George Soros, knows that distraction and misdirection make for a good defense. So do his many lackeys and sympathizers in the American media.

Recently, the left has built up two conservative billionaire brothers as their latest bogeymen. I am referring to the libertarians Charles and David Koch, who fund, among other groups, Americans for Prosperity. First Barack Obama lambasted them, and his minions in the media dutifully followed. Jane Mayer’s 10,000-word article in the New Yorker, titled “Covert Operations: the billionaire brothers who are waging a war against Obama,” has been widely cited in other liberal media.

In reality, the brothers have long funded a variety of causes years before anyone had ever heard of Obama. Regardless, Mayer’s article was criticized as shameful by others, including a trenchant bit of criticism by Mark Hemingway in the Washington Examiner. One of Hemingway’s points was right on target: Mayer’s barely visible coverage of George Soros, sugar daddy of the Democratic Party and an early, ardent and generous supporter of Barack Obama. Hemingway excerpts a paragraph from Mayer’s article and notes some omissions:

But this passage from Mayer’s piece is also worth noting, as a measure of the article’s bias:

Of course, Democrats give money, too. Their most prominent donor, the financier George Soros, runs a foundation, the Open Society Institute, that has spent as much as a hundred million dollars a year in America. Soros has also made generous private contributions to various Democratic campaigns, including Obama’s. But Michael Vachon, his spokesman, argued that Soros’s giving is transparent, and that “none of his contributions are in the service of his own economic interests.”

The idea that Soros’ giving is transparent is laughable — he’s given millions to the Tides Foundation, a byzantine organization notorious for obscuring finding sources on the left … Further, Soros was very influential in setting up the Center for American Progress think tank and many other liberal organizations in the last decade. If any billionaire has waged war against a president recently, it’s Soros’ campaign against Bush. To dismiss any concerns about Soros’ political spending while saying that the Koch brothers are at the center of a dark conspiracy is absurd.

Mayer just let the claim that Soros has no monetary interest when he gives money stand unchallenged — and that was shameful. Where was the famed New Yorker fact-checking department? Did they get laid off?

Mark Levin interviews Christine O’Donnell for US Senate in Delaware

christine2010.com

The Focal Point

Mike Castle, seat warmer.

Want to take back your government? Look no further.

Delaware’s “Joe Biden” seat. It took 3,162 votes for Biden to win that seat in 1972, and that was considered an upset. Which is why Biden went for it nearly four decades ago.

Biden’s campaign had virtually no money and was given no chance of winning. It was managed by his sister Valerie Biden Owens (who would go on to manage his future campaigns as well) and staffed by other members of his family, and relied upon handed-out newsprint position papers and meeting voters face-to-face; the small size of the state and lack of a major media market made the approach feasible.

He’s been undermining the country ever since. That’s how important the Delaware Senate seat is.

There are three contenders: RINO Mike Castle and Tea Party activist Christine O’Donnell on the GOP side, Chris Coons on the Dem side.

Erick Erickson of RedState gives us the inside baseball:

If Mike Castle becomes the next United States Senator from Delaware he is going to get sworn in, serve a bit, then become a Democrat, resign, and let Beau Biden get an appointment.

It’s a done deal. The deal has been made already. I’m hearing this not just from Christine O’Donnell people, but party regulars in Delaware, some of whom support Castle. It is insane.

Maybe that is why Mike Castle is running from Christine O’Donnell. He is afraid to have to answer questions about this. The man will not debate her to save his life.

RINO Mike Castle votes with Pelosi and the Dems when it really matters. His entire dismal record is here.

During a lame duck session he would vote FOR any version of Cap and Trade. That’s for sure. That makes him one of the most dangerous men in the country.  And to top it all off – John Cornyn, head of the NRSC is backing Castle.

That means it’s up to us. Again. September 14 is the primary.

Could Castle be next?

“The process of settlement is a “Civilization-Jihadist Process” with all the word means. The Ikhwan must understand that their work in America is a kind of grand Jihad in eliminating and destroying the Western civilization from within and “sabotaging” its miserable house by their [own] hands and the hands of the believers so that it is eliminated and God’s religion is made victorious over all other religions.”

In the Public Schools

Act!forAmerica: The issue is not teaching about religion. It is appropriate for our schools to teach children, in an evenhanded and factual way, about the major religions of the world, as this is integral part of world history. The issue is how Islam is so often presented.

We are so concerned about this problem that earlier this year our “sister” organization, American Congress for Truth, retained a top-notch research team to investigate this. The team is currently analyzing school textbooks for factual errors, historical inaccuracies, preferential treatment given to Islam, and the like.

The culmination of the project next year will be a written report that we will make available online as well as mail to every school board member in America.

HS test ‘slams’ Christianity, lauds Islam

Wiki whitewash of Islamic conquest in Pakistan

State testmakers played favorites when quizzing high-schoolers on world religions — giving Islam and Buddhism the kid-gloves treatment while socking it to Christianity, critics say.

Teachers complain that the reading selections from the Regents exam in global history and geography given last week featured glowing passages pertaining to Muslim society but much more critical essay excerpts on the subject of Christianity.

“There should have been a little balance in there,” said one Brooklyn teacher who administered the exam but did not want to be identified.

“To me, this was offensive because it’s just so inappropriate and the timing of it was piss-poor,” he added, referring to the debate over the plan to build a mosque near Ground Zero.

The most troubling passage came from Daniel Roselle’s “A World History: A Cultural Approach,” observers said.

The passage reads: “Wherever they went, the Moslems [sic] brought with them their love of art, beauty and learning. From about the eighth to the eleventh century, their culture was superior in many ways to that of western Christendom.”

Meanwhile, an excerpt listing the common procedures used by Christian friars to introduce the religion in Latin America stated that “idols, temples and other material evidences of paganism [were] destroyed,” and “Christian buildings [were] often constructed on sites of destroyed native temples” — and built with free Indian labor, to boot.

Gates of Vienna version.

“I can see why some people might see these questions as skewed,” said Mark MacWilliams, a religious-studies professor at St. Lawrence University in upstate Canton. “Why does the exam seem to have only documents that portray Islam as a religion of peace, civilization and refinement, while it includes documents about Christianity that show it was anything but peaceful in the Spanish conquest of the Americas?”

At the same time, MacWilliams criticized the presentation of Hernando Cortes’ conquest of Mexico — which he said portrayed him as a “choirboy” rather than a “conquistador.”

“It’s quite a whitewash,” he said.

Courting Disaster

Explosive Book Charges Obama Invites Attack on U.S.

by  Human Events | January 19, 2010

As President George W. Bush’s top speechwriter, Marc Thiessen was provided unique access to the CIA program used in interrogating top Al Qaeda terrorists, including the mastermind of the 9/11 attack, Khalid Sheikh Mohammad (KSM). Now, in his riveting new book, Courting Disaster, How the CIA Kept America Safe and How Barack Obama Is Inviting the Next Attack (Regnery), Thiessen reveals how, as the result of waterboarding and other enhanced interrogation techniques that were used on a very selective basis, the CIA obtained a huge quantity of information. The information obtained Thiessen explains, prevented numerous terrorist assaults on the U.S. and catastrophic damage to America and its allies. In dismantling this program, shutting down the strategic interrogation center at Guantanamo and cloaking KSM and fellow terrorists with the constitutional rights of an average U.S. citizen, Barack Obama, according to the author, is courting another 9/11.

Stopping Voter Fraud in Elections

A message from Poor Richard

Dear Citizens,

Early voting and military voting in this Nov. 2nd election will be critical. Early voting begins on Oct. 18th. For this reason poll watchers are of greater importance now than ever before to prevent voter fraud and election fraud.

There are 4 sources from which trouble could arise:

  1. Dead Sea Scrolls – thousands of zombie voters will somehow rise from the dead and find their way to the ballot box to vote Democrat;
  2. “Stuffed” Liberal Ballot Box – a key precinct box in a heavily populated area will be “misplaced” then suddenly be found, stuffed to the gills with Democratic ballots.
  3. “Missing” Conservative Early Votes- officials in heavily populated Democrat voter precincts in Dallas, Tarrant, Bexar and Travis counties discover that early voting ballots which tend to favor conservatives are now “missing”.
  4. “Missing” Military Vote - we all remember Florida. Having our fighting military voters’ ballots disregarded as “lost”, “misplaced”, or “disqualified” for noncompliance is an insult and disgrace to our national honor. Make sure this doesn’t happen in your precinct. Let’s ensure our fighting men and women’s voices are heard.

It is imperative that we follow the ballots all the way from the precincts to the counting rooms to the storage facilities to ensure all these early votes are properly tabulated and do not suddenly become “lost” when the now inevitable Democrat recount challenges arise.

Alert your local precinct, county and state election officials to these possibilities.

Express your concerns and voice your opinion. Tell them we’re going to be watching to make sure this election is fairly held, processed and tabulated. They must know we will brook no excuses or failures to properly secure and count the vote on election day. The integrity of the ballot must be maintained and if they know a lot of folks are watching, they will be far less inclined to be lax in their duties, which will make it far more difficult for the liberal Democrat machine to manipulate the vote in their favor.

Houston Voter Fraud?

By joe pelati | August 29, 2010 | Houston Tea Party Society

What is going on in Houston? Last week, thousands of bogus voter registrations were discovered, and a few days later, every voting machine in Harris Country was destroyed in a mysterious warehouse fire. It is not unreasonable to think that there may be people actively seeking to corrupt the upcoming election.

Have we been blissfully ignorant that “one citizen, one vote” may not be practiced in the selection of our political leaders?

The voting process is simple enough. A voter registration card is filled out with a name, an address and a signature. This card is sent to the Tax Assessor’s office. The Tax Assessor puts the name on the card onto the voter’s list of the appropriate precinct, then sends out essentially a postcard via US mail. That postcard, with no picture, is the legal voter registration card that enables the bearer to vote. On election day, this postcard is the only document that must be presented at the polling place. The voter then signs the voter roll and votes.

It sounds simple and straightforward, but in reality is an antiquated, flawed system. Examination of this process clearly shows that anyone can register, then vote, without ever unambiguously proving eligibility nor showing a valid photo ID. However, a valid photo ID is needed to rent a car, buy a six-pack or take a short hop on an airplane.

U. S. Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson’s Nepotism Revealed

by Donna Garner | August 29, 2010 |

Game over.

U. S. Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson used nepotism and basically helped send her grandchildren, relatives’ children, and staff members’ children to college by violating the rules of the Congressional Black Caucus. Johnson served on the Foundation’s board for many years and undoubtedly knew the rules even though when interviewed she tried to plead ignorance.

When I hear of Congressmen who are caught doing things that are overtly illegal, I have to wonder how many other illegal things they are doing.

Eddie Bernice Johnson is the same Congressman who along with four other Texas Democrat Congressmen (Ortiz, Hinojosa, Reyes, and Gene Green) filed H. R. 1593 on July 30, 2010.

H. R. 1593 is the Democrats’ attempt, working with far-left Texas Freedom Network, to destroy the work of our elected Texas State Board of Education members. The House resolution is available here.

Now let’s see how credible and honest Congressman Eddie Bernice Johnson is. This Dallas Morning News article exposes her unethical, dishonest practices.  She has obviously used the power of her office to benefit her own selected friends and relatives.  The leaders of the Congressional Black Caucus consider what Johnson did to be a serious breach of their Foundation rules.

Maybe instead of filing frivolous Resolutions Johnson should spend some time straightening out her own life.

The DMN also made this statement:

“The congresswoman, 74, who is expected to handily win a 10th term this fall over a relatively unknown Republican…”

I have now learned more about this “relatively unknown Republican” whose name is Pastor Stephen Broden is running for the seat in District 30.

A friend wrote to me and stated,

“Running against this Democrat 18-year incumbent is a mighty challenge for Broden, who is a strong black conservative with no political experience and no money but lots of integrity and willingness to set things right in Washington. You may have seen him a year ago when The Tea Party Express stopped over in Dallas and he was aksed to speak.  He was with Glenn Beck yesterday in D.C.”

Beck and Broden.

Since the Glenn Beck rally probably had between 300,00 to 500,000 participants, I doubt if it could be said that Pastor Stephen Broden is a “relatively unknown Republican.”

I immediately went to Broden’s website and read his belief statement and his biographical information posted at the bottom of the page here.

Then I went to his homepage and read about Broden’s appearance at the Restoring America Rally in Washington, D. C. yesterday:

http://www.brodenforcongress.com/default.asp

I would say that the voters of Texas Congressional District 30 have a great opportunity to vote out of office Democrat U. S. Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson on Nov. 2, 2010, and elect a man of true character and integrity, Pastor Stephen Broden.

Become a fan of Pastor Stephen Broden on Facebook here.

Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson violated rules, steered scholarships to relatives

“It’s totally fine if the congressman or -woman wants to reach inside their own pocket and give, but to use money that people got tax deductions on to then benefit their family – it would just be setting up nonprofit organizations to get tax benefits to put their kids through college. It would wreck the whole system if that kind of thing were allowed,” Borochoff said.

By TODD J. GILLMAN and CHRISTY HOPPE | August 29, 2010 | The Dallas Morning News

Longtime Dallas congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson has awarded thousands of dollars in college scholarships to four relatives and a top aide’s two children since 2005, using foundation funds set aside for black lawmakers’ causes.

The recipients were ineligible under anti-nepotism rules of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, which provided the money. And all of the awards violated a foundation requirement that scholarship winners live or study in a caucus member’s district.

Johnson, a Democrat, denied any favoritism when asked about the scholarships last week. Two days later, she acknowledged in a statement released by her office that she had violated the rules but said she had done so “unknowingly” and would work with the foundation to “rectify the financial situation.”

Initially, she said, “I recognized the names when I saw them. And I knew that they had a need just like any other kid that would apply for one.” Had there been more “very worthy applicants in my district,” she added, “then I probably wouldn’t have given it” to the relatives.

Her handling of the scholarships puts a rare spotlight on the program and how it is overseen. Caucus members have great leeway in how they pick winners and how aggressively they publicize the awards. Some lawmakers promote the program online, for instance, while Johnson does not.

Philanthropy experts said such lax oversight of scholarship money doesn’t match the standards for charities.
