Time for a new Texas Speaker

open season on rinos

What goes on in that head of his?

You know, I don’t remember hearing Joe Straus out there fighting ObamaCare when the rest of us were doing everything in our power to defeat it.  I heard him complain AFTER the bill was passed, but I do not remember his being a leader in the effort to defeat this miserable bill in the months leading up to its passage.

As Speaker of the Texas House, Joe Straus should have recognized the devastating impact ObamaCare would have on all of us BEFORE the fact — not after the fact.

Somehow his comments leave me cold because based upon his past conduct, I doubt he would have the courage to confront Obama if push came to shove.

I want a Speaker of the Texas House whose uncompromising belief in conservative principles is accompanied by intentional actions. We conservative Texans may have our chance on Jan. 11, 2011, when a new Speaker will be chosen by the Texas House members.

Speaker Straus: Concern for Texas’ & Texan’s Future

Is Washington listening? It’s clear the answer is no.

By Texas Speaker Joe Straus | 4:56 pm CST – August 20, 2010

Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN, Texas – This week, like many Texans, my wife & I are getting our children back to school, driving our oldest daughter back to college while our youngest gets ready to start her senior year of high school. It’s a reminder of how quickly our children grow up—and of something I try to think about as we make public policy decisions for our state:  What kind of future are we preparing for the next generation?

I am deeply worried about the legacy of debt that is being piled on my daughters’ generation.

The Congressional Budget Office reported this month that the federal budget deficit was $1.2 trillion for the first 10 months of the 2010 fiscal year. Congress is on track to create a national debt that by 2019 will be equivalent to about 90 percent of our GDP.

Yet the spending spree hasn’t stopped.

Nowhere is this reckless spending more evident than in the Obama Administration’s massive health care legislation.

To see him strike more attractive postures go here.

Here is a video exchange of some Hayes County Republicans trying to figure out what to do about “Rogue Republicans” like Straus.

Maybe Straus should be listening to that.

I really question whether it’s better to have a Democrat in a position -where everyone can unite against him – or a RINO who colludes with the opposition and silently works against his constituents.

Mr. Straus…your words ring hollow Sir. Though the message is right on, it is too little, too late. Where have you been? Oh that’s right, helping to raise money for an incumbent from the opposition party, then making excuses about it.

With the grass-roots groundswell taking place in Texas, it appears you could not be any more disconnected from conservatives in our great state.

Step aside and let someone like Wayne Christian who displays true conservative values and works side by side with citizen activists lead us into the future.

selective memory August 23, 2010 at 2:52 pm

It seems some have a selective memory. Straus does on fundraiser for a D, when Craddick did a dozen…and for urban liberals.

Plus, his first term as speaker general revenue spending was reduced, they passed a small biz tax cut, and set aside $8 billion in the rainy day fund.

I find the carping and complaining about his initial majority coalition, not his actual record.

By the way, shouldn’t it be open season on Democrats ten weeks before the election? Or should we let the slide while we engage in purity tests?

I guess all politics IS local. Joe Strauss is the RINO in the woodpile, talking smack about national issues, while he teams up with dems to win the speakership, and colludes with them on elections.

Selective Memory, you are ABSOLUTELY right that conservatives demand a purity test, and an (R) after your name does not buy you a pass. We want REAL conservatives, and Joe Straus has proved by his actions that he is not one.

From what I have heard from voters, people are pretty clear about Straus, and he has plenty to be worried about. SM, be sure to tell him that when you see him, won’t you?
