A Message to the Voters
by Patrick McGuinness | October 1, 2010
As Election Day draws near, the differences between my opponent and I become more clear every day. To start with, I am a 20-year private sector engineer with management experience; my opponent is a career politician. When you look at his voting record, you’ll see what I’ve learned, that HD 50 has been misrepresented for the last six years, and it is time for a change. Please read on, and consider sending this email to your friends today.
My opponent has voted against substantial property tax relief, and supports new, expanded taxes whenever he has the opportunity. I will fight for property tax appraisal reform, to lower the cap on appraisals and apply them to all real property and to give taxpayers more control over tax rate hikes. I have signed the Taxpayer Protection Pledge, and I am committed to opposing tax increases.
My opponent voted in favor of creating new gas taxes and transportation fees in the 81st legislative session. I oppose increasing gas taxes and will work to end diversions in the current gas tax to make sure the money goes where it was intended.
Laura Skelding /AAS From left, Reps. Mark Strama, Trey Martinez Fischer and Jim Dunham in House chambers in May, 2009. Democrats helped kill voter ID legislation with extended talks and stall tactics.
My opponent has not offered any substantial ideas for controlling spending in the upcoming budget cycle, and only talks about what he would not cut. This week, I announced my plan for transforming state government. I believe Texas needs a fiscally conservative approach to state budgeting, saying no to Federal mandates and higher state spending that we cannot afford. I support the governor’s request that state agencies cut their budgets by 5%, and I will work to identify inefficiencies in state government to get the budget under control.
My opponent has taken money from special interests, such as pro-choice organizations, whose agendas run contrary to that of residents in HD 50. I am running a grassroots campaign, with the help of citizens in HD 50 who want someone representing them, and not liberal PACs, in the Texas legislature.
Friends, these differences are just the beginning. I am running to offer voters in House District 50 real representation in the Texas House of Representatives. I need your help spreading the word. Please take a moment and send this email to five of your friends in HD 50 – your neighbors, fellow parents, church-goers, family, and other concerned citizens.
Thank you for your continued support! See you on the campaign trail,
Patrick McGuinness
