Help Defeat Planned Parenthood’s Favorite Republican

Our campaign is growing! The groundwork has been laid to take back our state from the career politicians who have failed to represent us. Thanks to you momentum is on our side, but we still have a lot of work to do for families and small businesses to regain our voice in government.

We can’t afford to have a liberal pro-choice Republican representing us any longer. My opponent, Senator Wentworth, was the only Republican to vote against the Sonogram Law requiring women to have a sonogram or listen to the fetal heartbeat 24 hours before receiving an abortion. Instead he took a position of abortion-on-demand, consistent with his past votes against parental consent for abortions for underage girls. He has even received an award from Planned Parenthood.

What good does it do to elect Republicans if they don’t share our values or support the conservative platform of the Republican Party?

The choice in this election is clear. I am a physician who believes in the sanctity of life from conception until natural death and the only candidate in this race to be endorsed by Texas Right to Life and Texas Alliance for Life.

I hope you will join me in the resolve to strengthen the pro-life cause by sending a true conservative to the Texas Senate. Let’s make 2012 the year that we renew our pledge to protect life, defend liberty, honor traditional values, and stand up for Texas sovereignty.

Today marks the end of our fundraising quarter. Please help us promote Life by donating $1 for every year Sen. Wentworth has been representing pro-choice interests in the Texas Senate. That’s 18 years of a Republican voting against the values of the majority of his constituents. Please stand up for Life by contributing $18 or more today.

This is a critical time for our district, our state, and our nation. I promise to stand up and fight for the founding principles that have made Texas and the United States of America so great. Won’t you please stand with me?

Donate today and say YES! to life, liberty, and opportunity for ALL TEXANS.

God Bless You!

MSNBC Attacks True the Vote

When you announce plans to lead a historic effort ensuring fair and legal elections, you’re sure to make a few enemies.

Activist groups recently hit the airwaves of MSNBC, calling True the Vote’s efforts to recruit one million poll watchers “attempts to undermine democracy for partisan gain.” Not only did MSNBC air this completely one-sided and biased segment, they also reinforced the message of our opponents, labeling this interview with a graphic that read: “UNDERMINING DEMOCRACY.”

What could be further from the truth? Each state has its own laws regarding voter eligibility, and our goal is to simply monitor polling places to ensure the laws already in place are upheld.

But nothing frightens the far left more than voter identification laws, because it means the end of fraudulently tipping elections in their favor. We’re being attacked because we undermine the left’s agenda, not democracy. That’s why I’m urgently asking you to help True the Vote today to restore integrity to America’s election by making an immediate donation of $25, $50, $100, $250 or more.

This week marks an important fundraising deadline for political candidates, and we expect to see unprecedented fundraising totals for the left’s election machine. By donating today, you can help True the Vote counter that aggressive, radical agenda.

Does our mission sound subversive to you? Does it sound like we want to prevent eligible African-Americans, Latinos, elderly people, or young adults from voting, as the liberal media wants you to believe? Of course not. But those who work for true democracy threaten the radical agenda of the left—those who are “undermining democracy” with their efforts to bypass laws that keep America’s elections fair and safe.

We will not let attacks on national television slow down our important work, but we need your support today to keep up the drumbeat. So will you make an immediate donation to support True the Vote’s efforts?

I’ve written before to tell you about our efforts to coordinate citizen led programs that help us all protect the integrity of our elections. It will take resources to make this happen — and to continue proving by example that we are not “undermining democracy” as MSNBC will have you believe. With your contribution right now, True the Vote can continue to expand its efforts: equipping citizens to leave no polling place unmanned, no registry unchecked, no positive legislative reform undefended.

It’s up to concerned individuals like you and me to fight back. Will you do your part to ensure our elections are free and fair—and help us defend ourselves from these baseless attacks? Please follow this link to make the most generous contribution to True the Vote you can afford today, and help us counter the massive fundraising machine of the left. Together, we can ensure every American election is free and fair in 2012. Thank you in advance for your support.

Onward -

Rumblings: What Was Kay Baby Thinking?

by J.C. | March 29, 2012 | Citizen Report

I sent this to KBH this morning.

Senator Hutchison why would you come out in favor of Planned Parenthood stating that they do Mammograms when they don’t?  This is directly from their website.

Where Can I Get a Mammogram?

Ask your health care provider, health department, or staff at your local Planned Parenthood health center about where you can get a mammogram in your area.

Senator Hutchison Sides with Planned Parenthood Over Texas

In the battle against Planned Parenthood & the Obama Administration’s strings-attached-to-our-money and Texas, Texas Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison expressed her support for Planned Parenthood and emphasized how low-income women rely on the government programs that are losing funding.

Hutchison appears in a video posted by The Hill saying, “I think Planned Parenthood does mammograms, they do so much of the health care, the preventative health care, and if they’re doing that, then we need to provide those services, absolutely. We cannot afford to lose the Medicaid funding for low-income women.”

Sen. Hutchison is both wrong and she has missed the point.

KING STREET PATRIOTS TO APPEAL COURT RULING ON CONSTITUTIONAL GROUNDS

via Bill Ouren | March 29, 2012 | KingStreetPatriots.org

HOUSTON — The following is a statement by King Street spokesman Bill Ouren, reacting to a Travis County district court judge ruling this week that the organization is a Political Action Committee and not a nonprofit corporation.

“While we respect the judge’s authority, we disagree with his findings on the constitutional questions on which he ruled and are aggressively appealing the ruling. It is hard to understand why the Texas Democratic Party continues to pursue this frivolous lawsuit based on a total absence of facts and complete ignorance of our organization. We are grateful that we will have the opportunity for a hearing in the Austin Court of Appeals. Until then, we wish to thank the thousands of caring citizens across Texas and around America who support our educational efforts for their good wishes.”

Virginia AG Ken Cuccinelli Discusses the Severability Clause and ObamaCare

Who altered the ObamaCare bill so that the individual mandate could not be removed without the rest of the bill being thrown out? Listen and learn.

Uploaded by  on Mar 29, 2012

Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli agreed with Greta Van Susteren that the entire Obamacare Law must be thrown out because Democrats removed the severability clause in the bill when they voted on it in the US Senate. Therefore, if the Supreme Court decides that the individual mandate is illegal, then they must throw out entire law.

“Hi, this is Greg Abbott coming to you from just outside the United States Supreme Court. We just wrapped up our third day of oral arguments about the ObamaCare lawsuit. Once again it was another great day for Texas and our claims that Congress over-reached their authority. Very powerful comments came from Justice Kennedy today where he frequently returned back to the theme of federalism. As well as his fellow justices agreeing with him that federalism is a fundamental principle that Congress is over-reaching.

The feel I got from the arguments today as well as from the entire week and that is the Supreme Court is ready to strike a blow in favor of liberty and put limitations on Congress’ power to regulate Texas and other governments around the country.

We are now concluding the oral arguments. We will be looking for a decision coming out in the later part of June — hopefully in favor of the state of Texas. We will continue fighting for you, your liberty, your pocketbooks and your taxpayer dollars.” – Greg Abbott, Texas Attorney General

Cornyn Offers Amendment to Block Sand Dune Lizard Listing

Cornyn Offers Amendment to Block Sand Dune Lizard Listing

WASHINGTON—U.S. Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) today filed an amendment to the Energy Tax Credits Modification bill on the Senate floor that would block the proposed listing of the Dunes Sagebrush Lizard, also known as the Sand Dune Lizard, to the Endangered Species List:

“If the Administration has their way, listing this species could bring oil and gas production in the Permian Basin to a screeching halt.

“The misplaced priorities of the White House threaten property rights and jobs for West Texans, and are a missed opportunity to lower energy prices for consumers nationwide.

“My amendment will protect Texas jobs and promote red, white, and blue energy here at home.”

Background

The US Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) has proposed adding the Sand Dune Lizard to the Endangered Species List, which could shut down oil and gas production in parts of West Texas and Eastern New Mexico for two to five years. In their proposal, as recorded in the Federal Register, the FWS acknowledges deficiencies in their understanding of the lizard’s habitat and the impacts of natural events and human activities on the habitat of the species, yet they are moving forward.

Citing concerns within the scientific community, Sen. Cornyn and Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-OK) sent a letter to Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar requesting a delay in Fish and Wildlife Service’s final determination, which was granted.  Sen. Cornyn has previously discussed this issue with Director Daniel Ashe, who asserted his commitment to ensuring that the Fish and Wildlife Service makes important decisions like this with a full consideration of the relevant data after traveling to the Permian Basin at Sen. Cornyn’s request.

The Board of Regents for the University of Texas System, which manages more than 2.1 million acres of land in Texas, including 75,000 acres that could potentially be designated as habitat for the Sand Dune Lizard, have written to FWS stating the proposed listing is “at best premature and currently unsupported in law and fact. The proposal is based on faulty science, inadequate data, and seriously erroneous assumptions.”

Senator Cornyn serves on the Finance, Judiciary, Armed Services and Budget Committees.  He serves as the top Republican on the Judiciary Committee’s Immigration, Refugees and Border Security subcommittee. He served previously as Texas Attorney General, Texas Supreme Court Justice, and Bexar County District Judge.

This clip was provided by a new media start up project designed to level the media playing field by providing content resources to grass roots groups, new media producers, social media groups such as this one and others that form a vast network that can become an information bulwark against the main stream media. The fact that the MSM is almost entirely in the bag for the left – and unabashedly for Obama – will have impact on the independent and last minute deciders in the 2012 election. Even though trust and credibility is at an all time low for the MSM, they posses tools and resources that local teaparty, grass roots groups and even established organizations that are political information hubs don’t have. MSM has affiliate stations, research teams, field producers and more along with budgets provided by ad revenue to keep people working 24/7. This group is testing open content it will provide in the form of news reports, forums, issue channels and more that cover the critical issues as determined by the public, not the press.

Volunteers needed for Dr. Donna Campbell

by J.C. | March 27, 2012 | Hays County Conservatives

The Dr Donna Campaign for Texas State Senate District 25 is in full swing.  We are looking for all of the support we can get again in this primary race.  In 2010 Hays County delivered in Spades for Donna (with 1,060 votes) and we hope to have the same or a better turnout again this year.  You all know Donna and you all supported her in the 2010 race against Lloyd Doggett.

This election Donna is running against Jeff Wentworth and I don’t need to repeat everything Michael covers in his new website www.jeffwentworth.com  because you all know this already.  It’s time to turn Jeff out to pasture.  He is one of the most liberal Senators in Texas and we need to take back the Senate this year as we did the Texas House last year but with more Conservative Senators.

Michael Quinn Sullivan shared a link via Texans for Fiscal Responsibility.

Check out our new website dedicated to educating the public about the things Sen. Jeff Wentworth (the most liberal Republican in the Texas Senate) doesn’t want you to know.

Jeff Wentworth | The most Liberal Republican Senator in Austin

Jeff Wentworth repeatedly touts himself as a “Goldwater Republican” when nothing could be further from the truth.

You also Know that Donna was rated as one of the Top 10 Conservative Candidates in Texas.

Texas AG Greg Abbott – Special ObamaCare SCOTUS Update 2

Uploaded by  on Mar 27, 2012

“Hi, this is Greg Abbott just outside of the United States Supreme Court where we have finished Day 2 of the ObamaCare oral arguments. We had a great day where it seemed like a majority of the justices agreed with Texas’ position. Justice Kennedy in particular said it looks like ObamaCare changes the relationship between government and individuals in a way that intrudes upon individual liberty. He also said that in agreement with Texas that ObamaCare is forcing people do something that is contrary to their prior rulings.

Importantly, Justice Scalia agreed that the federal government is supposed to have limited powers. The federal government has only those powers that are enumerated in the Constitution. He can’t find in the Constitution where the federal government has the power to impose ObamaCare.

Outside the courtroom, it was completely crowded with people who were chanting opposition to ObamaCare. The people of this country are in agreement with the arguments by Texas against ObamaCare. Just know that we are here in Washington, D.C., fighting for your liberty, fighting for your interest and trying to protect you and your pocketbook. We’ve got one more day of oral arguments and then the decision coming out soon.” — Greg Abbott

“Hi, this is Greg Abbott talking to you from Washington, D.C., just outside of the United States Supreme Court where I’m here fighting for your liberty and your freedom in the ObamaCare lawsuit. I just left the Supreme Court building after we had a day of oral argument where the issue before the court is going to be whether or not they infringe on your liberty and over-reach into your lives unlike ever before.

You can tell this is history in the making for two reasons. One reason is because of the massive crowds outside of the court where people across the country are coming here to protest against this over-reaching law. You can also see the history in the court hearings themselves. I’ve argued a case before the U.S. Supreme Court defending the Ten Commandments monument. I’ve been here about second amendment cases as well as other cases that Texas has had before the High Court.

Every Supreme Court argument lasts one hour. This case is not lasting one hour or even one day. This case is lasting three days in an historic moment before the U.S. Supreme Court. As we work so hard to defend you, your lives, your pocketbooks, your taxpayer dollars and your liberty. I’ll continue to report back every day to let you know what’s going on.”

What’s Going On With the Austin Energy Rate Increase?

AE Rate Protest - We Can Stop the 23% Rate Increase!

It seems like ages have passed with little real news on the rate increase.  And in a way, that’s so.  The City Council has been conducting “work sessions” to explore the issues they think most contentious, still with the idea of voting on a final rate hike proposal on May 24.  So no real decisions have been made in the past couple of weeks.  So far, the City Council has held work sessions on how much money Austin Energy (AE) really needs (the “revenue requirement”) and the transfers of money ($150M – $178M) from AE to the City coffers.  Coming up soon, a work session on the concerns of outside-the-city ratepayers.  SEE BELOW.  If you wish to see these work sessions, you can see them live, or archived at:

SAVE THE DATE – Saturday April 14: (Time TBD)

LAKEWAY CITY HALL – Hearing About Outside Austin Ratepayer Concerns

The Austin City Council will be conducting a “work session” to discuss the concerns of outside the city Austin Energy customers.  Let’s all turn out so they know we are paying attention!

What’s HURF Been Up To?

HURF continues to provide input to the Mayor and City Council on the concerns of outside the city ratepayers, as the Council proceeds through its “work sessions.”  We have also been requesting additional information from the City and Austin Energy about transfers, fuel charges and other mysteries.  More on this topic in a future email.  And of course, we continue to prepare for a rate protest petition to the Public Utility Commission of Texas.  But we can’t start gathering signatures until the rate hike actually is passed by the Council.

Transfers From AE to the City

This past week’s work session focused on transfers from Austin Energy to the City of Austin.  A few observations:

  • A lot of time was spent discussing whether it was legitimate to apply the transfer percentage (9.1%) to what are supposed to be pass-through fuel charges.  The solution offered:    don’t count fuel charges in the transfer calculation, but raise the transfer rate to 12%!  Tails we win, heads you lose!
  • In February, Austin Energy proposed that general fund transfers to the city be capped at $105M.  This week, their position seems to be that $105M should be the minimum.  From ceiling to floor in one giant leap – it’s super-utility!
  • Austin Energy transferred $38M this year to the City for services it supposedly receives from them.  For example, approximately 40% of the entire budget of the Mayor and City Council gets transferred to Austin Energy and baked into our electricity bills.  As HURF told the council:  “common sense points to the improbability that the mayor and council dedicated almost 40% of their time and resources to supervising the utility…” [emphasis added]. The City claims it has defensible methodologies for allocating the cost of various city departments to Austin Energy. Yet InFact Daily quoted Electric Utility Commissioner Smaha as saying:  “My understanding is that the city government asked AE management for a major temporary increase in those transfers to make up for a drop in City revenues due to the dot-com crash…Though it was supposed to be a temporary increase in allocations to AE, it was never rolled back.”  [emphasis added]  Perhaps the fact that Austin Energy was used to bankroll the city while sales tax revenues were down has something to do with how their financial reserves have been depleted?
